Next class starts TUESDAY, Dec 5th, 6 PM at Northeast Chiropractic Clinic

Same driveway as East Library up on North Union between Montebello and Vickers Drive. We will start with a Healthy Living Class by showing you just what the SAD – Standard American Diet does to your body each day. The TLS Weight Loss Solution is a 12 week program designed to fit your individual needs, your goals, your commitment. Take a look at the before and after pictures on my Nutrition & Weight Loss page. Those folks were very happy with their results. I was so proud of their commitments and efforts to reach the goals they set for themselves.

Come on in and join us. This class will be the last one that has the $395 price. At the first of the 2013 year, that price will go up to $545 for the 12 week class. $545 is still an amazing cost for a 12 week class – don’t think you will find any other doctor supervised program that gives you so much support and education.

If you have any questions at all, give me a call. 719-243-4586 An on-line option is available for $350.

Skinny hugs to all,

Sunnyside and friends, TLS Weight Loss Solution Gals

I am so proud of my ladies from Sunnyside! AND, of course, the gals not from Sunnyside, but that are joining us on this weight loss journey! Each has shared their reasons for doing this, their hopes in what they are working to accomplish and each has made a commitment to themselves, their families and friends to do everything they need to do to reach those goals to lose weight, get healthy, feel better.

As part of keeping my commitment to them as their coach, I am doing the DETOX week right along with them. For me that means No coffee this past couple of days, no sugar, no dairy or protein and no grains or fats. Even though this is not the first time for Detox for myself, it is still a commitment and a choice every time I put something into my body. AND it is hard. I remember just how hard it was that first time. Wasn’t really sure I was going to be able to get through it, but found that I could do ANYTHING for Seven, then Six, then Five, then Four, lol, days.

AND the amazing feeling I got that first time I did not have SUCK IT IN in order to button my jeans, and the first time my pants were just TOO BIG, whoo HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Then when I realized I was sleeping through the night so much more regularly or when I realized that my asthma meds were needed less and less or when I was waking up BEFORE the alarm went off (with enough energy to actually get out of bed early), well I am so anxious to share those accomplishments with this group.

Sooooooooooooo, ladies, Yes, Avocados are allowed – 1/4 of one is a serving. No fruit juice is NOT a preferred drink, the concentration of sugar is so much higher in fruit juice and the fiber is so much lower. Yes, you can cook your vegetables; the more raw you can eat the better, but steaming, sauteing in vegetable broth, baking is ok. You will most likely find that your taste buds are starting to change by day 3 or 4 and you might just start preferring your vegetables less mushy.

I am so proud of each and every one of you! Keep it up,
Skinny hugs to all,

Facts n Questions about TLS Weight Loss Program

With the newest group getting ready to start their 12 Week TLS Weight Loss Program, I am getting a lot of questions about what is going to happen. Hopefully the following FAQ’s will answer most of those questions:

1. How is this all going to affect my life?

Well, the goal is; you are not only going to look better, feel better, (look and feel younger!), lose weight, lose inches, sometimes be able to have your doctor say, “Wow, I don’t know what you have been doing, but we can change/eliminate your medication for this, this and/or this”
2. What is a Glycemic Index ( hereafter, referred to as GI )?
The Glycemic Index measures foods on a 100-point scale. That number is an indicator of how a food affects our blood sugar or insulin levels. Low-GI foods produce little or no fluctuations in our blood sugar or insulin levels.
3. What is so important about how our blood sugar is affected?
When your blood sugar rises quickly, your body increases insulin production, forcing the body into fat accumulation; therefore fat storage.
4. So how is that related to the TLS program?
Your participation in the TLS program will give you the tools to recognize low GI foods and meals. You will learn how to prepare meals that sustain a more level blood sugar level throughout the day. You will learn about carbs and fats, fiber and sugars, and how all of those affect your blood sugar levels and your body functions. You will learn how to still be able to attend that holiday party; that you can still go out to eat and ENJOY yourself when doing so.
5. How will I cook, how can I possibly find enough recipes to satisfy my family?
During the course of your 12 week program, you will be able to find a multitude of recipes on-line at the TLS site, more recipes from your TLS Coach, more from your team mates, and more recipes from your own ability to properly search for and experiment with your new knowledge and skills.
You will also find that you may even be cooking less with needing less prep time to do so. At the same time you will not be missing out on nutrition, variety or taste. Add to that the fact that your body will be able to stay in a fat-burning mode AND you will feel more energized, more alert and more productive.
6. I keep hearing you talk about carbs. What is so important about carbs?
Very simply, not all carbohydrates are created equal. By just going on a low-carb diet, you are not gaining a healthy, sustainable solution, let alone a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. With TLS, carbohydrates are not the enemy; they are a perfectly healthy food group that is included with other foods in a manner that balances the quantities of all, and the quality of each. Quality carbohydrate intake, or the low GI lifestyle, is the basis of the TLS weight loss solution. We teach you how to recognize the good carbs and the not so good carbs and how they affect your body, your health.
7. How can I possibly be able to afford to eat on this new menu?
Personally, after the first couple of weeks, I found myself spending a lot less. While I do admit that occasionally I can still over spend and fill up the refrigerator way too full, then have to throw out a lot of wasted product, I am getting better and better myself at recognizing what or how much can I eat in any period of time. I have also found that by recognizing the “best buys” at the grocery stores, I am able to purchase, prepare and store food a lot more economically, efficiently and effectively.
8. Will I be weighing in everyday or every week?
As in any issue, with TLS, there are two schools of thought on weighing in.
On the one hand, there are the advocates, who insist that structure and regimentation are the key. That includes a daily weigh-in incorporating that concept of routine (which will then cross over into meal planning and exercise) and will give the fastest indication of whether you are on the right track in the first place. With a daily weigh-in, they maintain, motivation and accountability both remain high.

In the opposite camp are those who are against such a practice, citing that there are too many variables in play leading to the number that ends up between the toes. They go on to say that even if we assume the number is accurate, the incremental progress which is the real foundation of successful, sustainable weight loss will typically not be measureable by a standard scale on a daily basis, and, worst of all, the ritual could potentially transform into scale-obsession and ultimately an eating disorder in some people. Many of them recommend a weigh-in only when it occurs to you, and some say to get rid of the scale altogether.
During this 12 week program we recommend a regularly scheduled weigh-in, which essentially bridges the gap between these two.
During our 12 weeks, we will weigh in at the very beginning on day one, at the end of week one, at week four, six, eight, ten and twelve. Especially during that first week we ask that you hide the scales, concentrate on the detoxification process and allow your body to do its’ own magic without adding the stress of meeting imaginary or over-achievement goals.

Also keep in mind that your scale and the “official” weigh-in scale used by your coach will most likely be off by just a bit or even by several pounds. By using the same scale, having the same person measure you time after time, you will be giving those tools a consistency that will then give you a truer measurement of your success.

If you would like, your coach will come to your home and pick up your scales, returning them to you at the end of the program!

9. ANOTHER “weight” question: In the past, I have been SO discouraged with the fact that from day to day or week to week my scales have shown me down one time and up the next. How are you/TLS going to help me with that?

By educating you on the fact that the body is made up of approximately 65 – 70% water. Water is heavy. A gallon of water, placed on the scale, measures roughly eight pounds. For a person on a weight loss program, an eight pound weight loss is usually enough to make them sing praises for the program in question. In the case of an eight pound weight gain, however, they’ll be wondering what on earth is wrong with either themselves or the program.

Added to this, consider that a person on the TLS program is putting in their fair amount of exercise (or after Detox Week, should be) and is therefore losing lots of water in perspiration. At the same time, TLS also recommends proper hydration as a key for success. For most people this translates to the better part of a gallon a day—or more—so this same person is also taking in quite a bit of water on a regular basis. It is also true that in the long term, any dietary changes involving detoxification, supplementation, and controlled carbohydrate intake will have some effect on the amount of water a person is carrying at any one time, and TLS incorporates all of them. Another long-term effect that TLS participants will experience is a gain in lean muscle, which takes up less space than fat, but is denser and therefore weighs more. While none of these things work to interfere with the weight-loss process—quite the opposite—they all demonstrate the basic truth that the number on the scale is not a particularly useful indicator of progress, and certainly not on a day-to-day basis.
To summarize for the previous 2 questions: while TLS is all in favor of planning, establishing a routine, accountability and staying motivated (see our on-line articles on behavior change and lifestyle modification for some useful information and suggestions), a daily weigh-in isn’t part of that. The initial once-a-week weigh-in followed with an every other week weigh in will provide all of these things, with much less pressure and much better results.
Again, your coach would be more than willing to come collect your scales so that the pressure and expectations you place on yourself provide less stress with better results.
10. Eating Out
Eating out can be one of life’s greatest pleasures. With TLS, you will find that you can eat out; you can enjoy yourself when you do, and you will not totally wreck your commitment to staying healthy when you do.
Remember, NO FOOD IS COMPLETELYL OFF LIMITS at TLS. (after the 12 week commitment of course). Enjoyment is a big part of the commitment to ourselves. It may take you a bit of time to get to the point where you recognize that this is not a diet, but a lifestyle. When you do get to that point, you will be on your way to giving yourself and your family the lifestyle you and they deserve.
11. Don’t the food labels tell me all I really need to know about what is in a prepared product?
How can I possibly answer this one but to say NO! NO! NO!

Did you know that “30% less fat” could simply mean 30 % less fat than the original product – which in essence could still mean 300% more fat than you should be eating?

Did you know that “per serving” measurements COULD mean that the bottle of whatever you are drinking really is 2 ½ servings per 12 oz bottle? (let’s get real here folks, that is the only way they can justify selling you that product and not have it look like a 4 or 6oz kiddies portion.)

With TLS, you will learn how to properly read a label. You will go to the store armed with the easy to remember formula for properly calculating true carb levels. You will know what many of those heretofore unrecognizable terms on a label mean. (You will amaze yourself with how you are able to recognize the deceptive advertising and labeling practices used in the food industry)

12. What do you mean when you talk about “Behavior Modification” – I don’t particularly think I need to modify my behaviors, just need to lose some weight………:

Yeah, right. I am going to at times, take the “coach approach”
Some of you have heard me say this before : “Sometimes you have to make the Commitment to make the Choice in order to really make a Change.”
It’s a simple fact that repeating the same actions will deliver the same results; if you do what you’ve always done, you’re going to get what you’ve always got. AND, for a lot of frustrated people, that’s nowhere.

For any weight-loss program to succeed, change must occur. Change usually requires you to overcome fear; once you do, your life changes for the better.

The TLS Weight Loss System makes it a point to address this very important aspect of success to make sure past mistakes are not repeated.

13. AND “I have tried to AND lost weight before. It always comes back”, OR “What makes TLS so different than all the other programs?”

With TLS we give you the tools, the knowledge, and the support you need to embark upon and complete the very personal journey towards improving your health, your attitude, your life.
With TLS you will not be using drugs to change your metabolism; you will be using your body’s natural defenses to make the improvements.
With TLS, you will not be going on unrealistic calorie restrictions that can not be possibly healthily sustained over long periods of time. Quite the opposite; you will be able to eat as much as you want of the right foods and your body will naturally use those foods as fuel rather than store them as fat.
With TLS, you will NEVER be counting calories; in fact, for the most part, you will be ignoring them!
With TLS, you will never be “forbidden” to eat that favorite dessert or pasta dish – HOWEVER, you will probably find that after a period of time those foods just don’t hold the same pleasure.
With TLS you WILL find that your outlook on food may just change from “I use to live to eat” to “I now eat to live.”

As your TLS Coach, I will strive to assist you in any way I possibly can. That will include the meeting support, the phone support when you need it, text and email messages as appropriate, website support, all the educational support I can personally help you with. However, as for many journeys, it does take two; Your commitment, Your goals, Your attitude will play a significant role in this journey. I pray that together we will find your journey a rewarding one.

TLS Weight Loss Weekend! Coaches Training

Just spent a wonderful weekend with Lori Enrico and Chris Burger, two wonderful TLS Weight Loss Coach Trainers for Nutrimetrix.

Went through the TLS Healthy Living/Weight Loss program myself last summer and lost over 15 lbs and more than that in inches! Since then I have continued to lose weight and inches – am down from sizes 12, 14 with even a few size 16’s to NOW size 4 and 6 pants. Me in a size 4/6? Not since I was about 4 or 6 years old. My health is better, my prescription medication needs are down to almost nothing. The program helped me change my life, my health, and now has given me the opportunity to help others do the same.

This weekend was a comprehensive program giving the 12 attendees the knowledge and skills we need to be able to help others in their weight loss journeys. The TLS Weight Loss Program is a customizable, scientifically proven program. The inches loss and the weight loss attained is a realistic, healthy, sustainable solution. The support through on-line tools, phone, text, personal meetings – all of it is geared towards your individual goals, your personality, your commitment.

I have already coached a couple of groups through the TLS Healthy Living Weight Loss Program and am looking forward to starting the next two groups the week following Thanksgiving.

It is so exciting to be able to offer this program to others. My own journey is still ongoing and evolving. The changes in my health are amazing. I have more energy, am able to take less medications, and look so much better in those smaller sizes! Now with the additional knowledge under my belt (this company REQUIRES continuing learning and evidence that you the coach are walking the walk), the new groups will get the best of the latest research and proven programs to help them with their goals.

Give us a call, join a group. Surprise yourself with the gift of health and energy over the holidays. You will be glad you did!
